Melexis 90217 Hall-Effect Sensor To Measure Distance

I am looking into using a hall effect sensor (Melexis 90217 Hall-Effect Sensor) to measure distance.
The idea is to basicaly make a gausmeter.
I know this is possible based on this "guide" http://www.coolmagnetman.com/magmeter.htm
What I am interested in is how sensitive (and accurate)·is this sensor.
I am looking at seeing a change of 1mm using the Parallax recommended magnet:
