I have been looking at getting into motion tracking with the prop and want to track a pen with a piece of colored tape on the end. i was looking at sparkfun and saw this camera www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8739
i know there was some talk about this camera a long while ago and was just wondering if anyone got anywhere with it. what i want to do is make a clip for this camera to attach to the collar of a shirt or the top of my computer and then track the movement of the pen so that i can have a paperless pen for making notes. if anyone knows of a better way to make one let me know, the camera was just a quick idea and not a very well thought out one...yet.

That one puts out video... like to a TV...

You could use Perry's "Stupid Video Capture", if you just need a low quality, B&W image...

I've have some C328 serial cameras that I got working pretty nicely with the Propeller:

You would have to track the bottom of the pen for it to make any sense I think and even then you have really quite small movements to track. Systems like this area available but they tend to be based on ultrasound, you have a point emitter in the pen and two detectors, then it is just triangulation. You only need two detectors because it is on a flat plane and although it gives you two solutions you can safely ignore one. Actually the fact that the pen is on a flat surface is the only reason a single camera would work.

I will be releasing an object of great interest to those wanting to track things optically in a week or so (maybe less), I will PM you about it because I don't want to spill the beans until I have finished it and done the demos.
