What are the advantages of using the propscope as an o-scope vs viewports o-scope features?·

    Hi Chuck,

    welcome to the Forum.

I've not tried the prop scope as it's not available retail. Hanno, who wrote viewport and has likely had access to a test version of the P.scope can give you a better·idea.

It likely comes down to speed versus flexibility. But I'm betting Hanno will integrate the P.scope into viewport somehow, so we can have The Cake and ...

    Hi Chuck,
    Welcome to the forums!
PropScope is a piece of hardware that includes probes which you can use to diagnose ELECTRICAL problems with your circuits, projects, appliances.... The hardware includes an ADC and prescalers to converts analog signals to digital values. It also includes a DAC that allows the scope to produce arbitrary waveforms. The PC software let's you analyze the measurements in different views.

ViewPort is software that let's you debug programs written for the Propeller. It includes a graphical debugger- very similar to Visual Studio- letting you set breakpoints, step over code, watch and change variables. It also includes other views that let you graph variable values. These views are "virtual instruments"- they let you attach a "virtual oscilloscope" to a variable value, complete with trigger, cursors, variable timescales... Or, attach a "virtual logic analyzer" to a variable which represents the 32IO pins of the Propeller- with sampling rates up to 80Msps.

To summarize: PropScope to fix electrical things, ViewPort to write Propeller Programs.

Does the propscope include all features of your viewport software?

    Specifically the features listed here?

    Hi Clock,
No, they're different things. PropScope does not include the debugging tools. It doesn't let you compile/load spin code. It doesn't include OpenCV for computer vision. It doesn't include the fuzzy logic engine and control panel.

PropScope uses parts of the ViewPort library to communicate with the PropScope and to share date with Matlab/DDE/.txt/.xls/ftp server... Also for the DSO/LSA/spectrum analyzer widgets.

    Darn, ....

Well, if everyone acts before monday, they can get 10% off the prop scope.
Which would pay for most the cost of viewport.
