Emic Speech board volume increase

I have a Parallax Emic Speech board and I need to increase volume of the speaker. Several years ago, "Zoot" for one, had several posts on this forum on increasing the speaker volume. I have found several other sites with simple amplifiers. The problem is they all use a LM386. Mouser and Digikey no longer list a LM386. I have heard this IC is no longer made. Does any one know a "simple" circuit with component values that will
replace the ones using a LM386?

Thanks for any help.

Try the TDA7052. It's a much better chip than the obsolete LM386.

Digikey lists plenty of LM386 ICs.

    e.g. search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=LM386N-3-ND; more than 4k in stock

And Leon is right -- the TDA7052 is a way better amp (with intergrated volume control).

    Leon,

I looked the data sheets on the TDA7052 AND TDA7052A/AT from the Philips Semiconductors site, remember I am mechanical
engineer. The TDA7052 series looks good, but I a have few questions.

    1. The plain TDA7052 application diagram looks like it does not have a volume control, right ?

    2. The TDA7052A/AT application diagram does have a volume control, but it is shown as "DC volume control". What do they mean by DC volume control? They show a alternate diagram with a 1 Meg potentiometer as control, what is the difference?

    3. What is the difference between a TDA7052A and a TDA7052AT ?

    Thanks for the help,
