Anyone in Oklahoma City?

I'm trying to find a retail electronics component store that IS NOT Radio Shack. There were at least a dozen in San Antonio, but I cannot find any here. I've tried Google and the yellow pages. Maybe I'm missing something?

I am in Edmond, Oklahoma ... Several years ago there used to be a few wonderful Electronics surplus stores in OK-City... "World Wide Electronics" and "Radio Supply" Radio Supply is still around, but they have moved their focus from odds and ends electronic components more towards Networking. I'm still looking, but I haven't found any good surplus electronics in the area. ... DigiKey and Mouser have become my substitute.

    futurlec
    electronic goldmine
    ebay

I buy most of my parts on ebay lately.

Many Asian sellers are on ebay with fantastic bargains and fast delivery.

Where else can you get a 100pak of 17,000mcd white LEDs for 6.00 shipped free.

Lots of odd surplus gizmos and strange parts on ebay these days.

Beau, is that you in the Santa hat?

It definitely stinks that we do not have any good electronic outlets in OKC. I am in Midwest City and our Radio Shack doesn't even carry a full line
of resistors let alone any useful IC's. Although, I have to give them credit for stocking the 'What is a Microcontroller' learning kit. I went in for a solder
iron and came out with that kit and am now on a learning quest that I never saw coming. It's how I got introduced to Parallax and all the great things
    going on here.

i definetly agree, there should be some sort of supplier in the okc area! since theres no competition, whoever opened one up would surely have a strong customer base!

I also live in Edmond, when I moved here in 97' I was told of a place over off of Classen but I never found it. I'd suggest trying some of the hobby shops around town·too but they all seem to be shutting doors as well.

    Patrick T,

"World Wide Electronics" used to be off of 16th and Classen Blvd. ... they no longer exist. One of the great places to go in OKC.

There also used to be a place that had a large selection of Army Surplus way out off of 10th and Classen Blvd., but I don't remember the name or how exactly to get there. A friend of mine in the early 90's knew how to get out there, but it was a drive. Ever see a battery the size of a Volkswagen rated in Meg Joules? This place had something like that in their warehouse.

I was asking about this very thing today. I live in Edmond, and work in okc, and all I wanted was some ic sockets yesterday... I ended up having to buy some from work >.<

Wow, never knew I had other prop people in the same city! OKC get together!

    James,

I'm up for a local get together.... My wife works at a Church in Edmond and I have 'just' ok'd with her the use of a room for a small group meeting.

Send me an E-mail and we can work on some of the other details.

    kf4ixm,

A full blown EXPO might be out of my scope at the moment as there is a lot involved in pulling something like that off. My respect to OBC for doing such a wonderful job with our other EXPO's!! ... I would be open to the idea of a small group meeting to 'start' things off. Depending on how much interest there is and how many responses we get, I may modify my way of thinking.

Sorry to open up this old thread, but I have found a true GEM located in Oklahoma City. For all practical purposes, is like a mini EXPO every week. It's open to the public every Tuesday from 7:30pm until 8:30pm (<- there is a large fudge factor in there)... Paying members get extra benefits on any day of the week.
