What is the use of the "pin" on the top left corner of the board?

If you're referring to the metal stud, that is a ground post and is typically used to give a scope probe a good ground. Scope probes often have alligator clip ground clips and that post is a lot easier to grab on to than a pin header. The PPDB has one as well.· I hope this helps. Take care.
