Multiple serial to ethernet access

Does anyone have any thoughts about how 2 or more computers could access the same ethernet virtual com port using a rs485 style communication where there is one master controlling the traffic? I just finished up setting up a lantronix vcp, and would find it nice if I could figure this out. Otherwise we will need to set up a separate digi xtend radio and ethernet setup for each computer that wishes to be on the monitoring network.

You have already the lantronix device otherwise I 'll suggest you the tibbo ones (they allow this).

I have found very useful the products of Eltima (and use them always):
    - Serial Splitter
    - Serial to Ethernet Connector
    - Serial Port Monitor
    - VSP AX / VSPD XP

instead of accessing with 2 pcs on the remote ethernet2serial device you can use "serial splitter" to split the local virtual com on an phisical com and/or another virtual one using "serial to ethernet connector" and thus virtually daisy chaining the 2 pcs on the serial device server

The problem I see with using Eltima is that the typical end user in the application I am designing will not have the understanding it will take to set up and split the serial port.

Are you certain that tibbo allows multiple pc's to link to one serial setup? The only reason I used lantronix is that the digi ethernet radio uses the lantronix setup.

Not sure with Lantronix. Sena HelloDevice Pro series (& super series) allow up to 8 simultaneous ethernet connections to the single rs232/485 port.

Is what you want? Any connected master (on the ethernet side) can transmit data to the serial port. And any data received by the serial port is transmitted to all connected hosts/masters.

That is correct, that is what I want.

Yes with tibbo you can do it. Read here http://tibbo.com/kb/·(Use Cases) this is for configuration. BTW the DS from tibbo are also programable in basic so you can do everything. Look for EM203/1000/1202/1206 and their correspondent DS

BTW: I have downloaded one of the helps from the above post and find it unusable so this is the secon trial

PS Let me know if you can open them
