Doing a bit of research and came across this chip from microchip.

Does anyone have any experience with this chip they would like to share? I'm thinking 8 inputs (via opto couplers) and 8 outputs (3708 Fets).

Does anyone have any "gotcha's" that I need to know about?

Does anyone know of a similar (but "heaps better" ) chip?

I could spend _days_ trying to figure out the +ve/-ve of microchips similar chips {not to mention other manufacturers}, so any shortcuts would be appreciated.

I've used the 8-bit version. Just read and follow the datasheet description. I don't think there's a "heaps better" chip. This one's fine.
