If you are planning to use the UART to capture the data from the ICL7135 and send it in serial to the BS you do realize that you have to get the data from a minimum of 10 pins on the ICL chip. B1, B2, B4, B8, D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, and the sign bit. The over/under range signals might also be nice to have as well.

You might be better off using a prop instead of the UART. Far more flexible and fewer additional parts are needed.

Here is a block diagram of the required and optional connections between the ICL7135 and the prop and an explanation of the proposed output format.

If I understand correctly what you would like to do is make a board the same size and pinout as the Platform Prototyper Module with the ICL7135 circuitry, interfacing resistors and the RS232 or RS485 driver chip on it. This board will then plug into the Propeller Platform Module, and the Platform LCD UI Module may possibly be added to the stack.

If that is the case it certainly looks like it is doable. The only thing to watch for is that you do not use the pins for the meter board that are used by the Platform LCD UI Module. You will also need a + and -5V supply for the meter board. You can get the +5 V from the Propeller Platform Module but the –5V will either have to be generated on the board or provided by an external supply. If you decide to generate it on the board try to keep it as far from the ICL7135 analog circuitry as possible.

Here is the Board Lay out··· Please·Let me Know if some thing is not right with the board Layout

I will add· the - 5 volt power supply after I know that the main board is a good lay out

    Thanks

    I redone the board lay·out

I know that I do not have the rest yet I am doing one·piece at a time I am going to make this board a little longer to add the regulator for the ICL Chip

Please let me know what you think of this· board layout

I am not sure which type of display I am going to use so I Put all combination·so what pins I do not need those pins will not have resisters in them

Check the Max488 layout. Going by the data sheet pin out for the dip:

Pin 1 should go to Vcc (V+) it now goes to P16

Pin 4 connects to digital Gnd, now goes to P19

Move pin 2 and 3 to P16/P17. No other connections are required to the prop so P18/P19 will not be used.

The transmit/receive from the max488 each requires 1 twisted pair of wires. Add a 4 pin header instead of the output connector. Pins 5-8 of the max488 should go to those header pins and stay in sequence (pin5 to header1, pin6 to header2, etc)

By mistake I was looking at the MAX 487 instead of the MAX488

Please look at it· with a fine tooth comb·again and see if you find any more mistake very important that I have this right I only want to make boards that work right once

    Thanks

The only remaining problem I can see is on the upper power connector, MAX488 power connection, and the V-/Vref connections to the trim pot.

1- V50 and GND are shorted on the bottom (green) layer of the PCB. Remove short and connect analog Gnd plane to GND connector at this point only
2- Vcc from the MAX488 should go to V50 on the top connector
3- V-, Vref, and both ends of the Vref adjustment pot are tied together. Connect as per the schematic.
4- V- from ICL7660 goes directly to V- on pin 1 of the ICL7135 only. If the V- is not required the ICL7660 can be left out and pin 3 and 5 jumpered to connect V- to ground.

Double check everything in the analog section very carefully. I may have missed something.

I did receive your email this morning. It was time stamped 1:33am, so email is obviously not as "instant" as we may think if you sent it around the time you made the posting here (6:16, or 9:16 my time).

I want to Thank You for writing the code for the ICL7135·Chip to Propeller Chip

    Up-Date

I am working on the Pro-to Board ·right now and hope to have it done by Monday and once I have tested to see how it works we post the code for everyone

    ·

Here is the latest update Rev on the board

what program are you using to view/edit the board? I dont know the .pcb file extension. is that express-pcb? I normally use eagle. smile.gif

I want to Thank You for writing the code for the ICL7135·Chip to Propeller Chip
    BOTH CODEs

Here is the code for the ICL7135 meter Chip

I Have not had time to test the new Meter board code yet but·I will try to do·it very soon

I had some time to test the code and it work GREAT

I test this code with·a meter board that I already had which the board has a clock Pulse already and the code is a little different
