Programming and wiring a gearbox

Hi All,
Just to start out I would like to say that I'm new with robotics and Basic and the website so if i did anything wrong of my question is really stupid then sorry in advance =P

but what I'm doing here is creating a robot that moves around and picks up 'whiffle' golf balls and then deposits them into a specific area
the way that I'm going about doing this is having a front section of my robot that is controlled by a separate gearbox that spins and lifts the front part

however I have absolutely no idea how to program or wire the gearbox to connect it to my "board of education"
so if someone could just help me wire it and tell me the proper syntax just to make it spin that would be extremely excellent
Thanks alot in advance!

You can go one of two routes: the homebuilt control option (harder), or the prepackaged option (easier). I'd go with the easer one:

    www.parallax.com/tabid/768/List/0/ProductID/64/Default.aspx

There are other (non-parallax) versions that can do essentially the same thing, but the HB-25 will almost certainly work unless you have a giant motor.
