Hi:

The Propeller Proto Board (32212) needs the Prop Plug or the
USB2SER Development Tool.

Both are need to connect to the PC. Which is better, the
Prop Plug (32201) or the USB2SER Development Tool(28024).

Thanks Joe

The Protoboard comes with pins set up for the PropPlug. The USB2SER has its connections in a different order and you'd have to solder new pins in the holes provided to use the USB2SER and possibly remove the existing pins (if you want).

    Hi again:

    Then, differences between those
products are about physical connectors only ?
    ( No electronics differences) :

    Parallax USB2SER Development Tool -- 28024
    Prop Plug -- 32201
Parallax USB to Serial (RS-232) Adapter -- 28030

    Thanks Joe
PS: I added Parallax USB to Serial (RS-232) Adapter -- 28030
because it seems all are the same thing.

    Hello,

as the "datasheet" of the USB2SER (#28024) it is a 5V-device

the prop-plug is compatible with 3.3V and 5V-devices

the Parallax USB to Serial (RS-232) Adapter 28030 the soresite does not provide any information about electrical specs
    of the 232-side.

As it is a called "Parallax USB to Serial (RS-232) Adapter" it MIGHT be that on the 232-side it has standard-RS232-PC-voltage-levels which means +-12V
So for this case you would have to add a voltage-levelshifter like the MAX2323 to shift voltage-levels from -12V/+12V to 0/3.3V

    best regards

    Stefan

These are all different products that do slightly (or significantly) different things. Look up RS232 in the Wikipedia. You'll see that the voltage levels are very very different from 5V logic or 3.3V logic that the USB2SER or PropPlug work with. There are some differences among the various adapters that have nothing to do with their function. They use different IC chips and associated parts. Partly that has to do with when they were designed ... there are always "improved" chips and Parallax adopts these for newer products when that makes sense.
