What the use of End of Line and In line Resistor?

I am writting in to enquiry What the use of End of Line and In line Resistor?· I read that it is used to prevent short circuit and open circuit and if so how this is preveted by only inserting two resistor.· Can someone kindly tell me how the current behavior when it is short circuit and open circuit condition?
