Alternative to protoplug? (this is more available in my area)

Hello,

I am starting out with Propeller chip and was wondering if I can make this work instead of the prop plug?

I realize the DTR is brought out instead of the RTS pin, but does that make a difference? If so can it be remedied?

Thank you!

DTR is what you want in any case. All you need to do is add the little cap and transistor to properly reset the prop.

What he said smile.gif ... but the pins are also in a different order on that usb adapter. I've used that exact adapter before.

If you want something cheaper, see this (in the Completed Projects threads) - about $3 or you may have the bits already smilewinkgrin.gif

    Cheap propeller programmer...··http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=850099

Note the section where they just used a cap for reset instead of the transistor, etc·(from DTR, not DSR)

Anyway DTR/RTS is the same: Propeller Tool give the choice to you (Edit menu/Preferences item/Operation tab/PropellerResetSignal)

@BradC: it will be nice to have this option also on BST. This gives the opportunity to use the same serial line/port connected to two props and choose where to upload the application

I've given it some thought and it's on my todo list. Do you really have 2 propellers connected to the same port and use DTR/RTS to select between them? Really?

This may also be another inexpensive option. I haven't tried this with the prop myself, but found it on their website:

No, but I have 2 props connected to the same cpld and the cpld to the max 3232 (the cpld, beside other things, do serial switching). I have tried several configurations. In the past (1994) when I was developing electromedical equipment (blood analysis) I had several 8051 mcu daisy chained on the rs232 serial bus. The 8051 uarts support 9bit mode for this purpose (addressing). On the board there was 2 db9 connectors going on the rx/tx pins through a max232 with an aux AND gate on the tx line. The communication was master/slave: all the slaves receive the message but only the addressed one answers. The master was a PC
