Constrution of the Ping

Hi guys,
what of the two round 'things' of the ping is the sender and what the receiver? Is it fixed or can both 'cylinder' act both as sender and receiver.
Too avoid lenghty description, I attached a simple picture of the sensor, where each channel has it's own number.
Your help is much appreciated.
Thank you! :)

I really don't know for sure, but the PING manual shows it chirping from number 2.

Yes, the TX is from #2 (Right) and the RX is from #1 (Left). While I do have access to the schematics, I confirmed it with a scope while the Ping was running.
