Infrared Thermometer

hi everyone,
i am doing my final year project, is there anyone can help me from building a infrared thermometer from sketch (from sensor to LCD display)?
my objective is measuring human body heat in the distance of 1 meter.

i could find the detectors, but how about the LCD and micro controller (program)?

which one do you recommend if i need to display only the temperature?

I would recommend the 2X16 LCd for this project and there are sample codes listed under the LCD product page.· Here is a link for more information:

Because it's easy to use and the examples are all written for it, I'd suggest using the BS2 (www.parallax.com/Store/Microcontrollers/BASICStampModules/tabid/134/CategoryID/9/List/0/SortField/0/Level/a/ProductID/1/Default.aspx) for the microcontroller. You'll need a 5V regulator and a connector for downloading programs, so you should get one of the introductory kits like www.parallax.com/Store/Microcontrollers/BASICStampProgrammingKits/tabid/136/CategoryID/11/List/0/SortField/0/Level/a/ProductID/297/Default.aspx.

Mike, both of the product seems very high cost for me, because i am restricted to my budget RM 500 for the entire project.

can i use PIC16F877A? because i used that before, but i have no idea how to connect it with the MLX90614 Infrared Thermometer Module (10° FOV) which i found in Parallax.

You could use any microcontroller that can send and receive half-duplex asynchronous serial data on an I/O pin. The PIC16F877A should be able to do that, but we wouldn't be able to help you with the programming or give you anything but very general advice on how to connect it. The MLX90614 documentation (from the Parallax webstore page) should be all you'd need.
