A Propeller birthday! Ideas?

My birthday is coming up and since I am so into the Propeller I thought that I should ask for Propeller related gifts from everyone. What should I ask for? I am about at the intermediate rank and I have ALMOST every starter kit.

You must have one of these X-Band Motion Detectors we designed and just released. Another must-have is spare Propeller Proto Boards for your projects. Oh, how about some of these EL tubes (see Sandbox thread)? Nothing particularly Propeller-related, but really fun to play with.

Hi microcontrolled.

As I always said ... All posible advanced sensors.
Propeller and Propeller boards cost not so much but advanced sensors cost much many and are very useful

( That ones I need but only can dream that I will have ).

Regards

@Ken - Yea that wire does look cool... I guess it doesnt have to be totally Prop related. l only have Parallax Products though. Sensors may be a good idea.

Microcontrolled - you're still a "kid" but a big one, right? PM me your shipping address and I'll send you some of these EL tubes. We support investments in youth at Parallax. After all, we were once kids who used electronics. RadioShack was the main source, however.

Act fast - I'm shipping tomorrow.

For a long time I tried to live without a heat gun. I got one recently and now I'm a tube-shrinking maniac. Now everything is insulated and sealed and contoured. I love it.

Just keep it away from your sister so she doesn't try to dry her hair with it. And set her curls afire. lol.gif

Convection toaster oven if you want to do surface mount assembly.

Sensors will give you lots of fun.

El wire look cool.

Books will help you learn. I recommend something to do with data structures or a high level programing language. If you want to stick with embedded you may find vhdl interesting.

Do you have a scope?

If not, ask for one. Right now is the perfect time to get started using one. I had one about your age, and it was excellent. Learned a ton. Fun too!

Wow, Ken, Thanks for the EL wire!! That's awesome!!

Now that I am on a computer with a keyboard, I will type up a proper response.

ViewPort - This may be over the budget. Rarely do they spend over $100 on my birthday.
SD Card adapter - I have mctrivia's PropMod
Strong servos for a robot arm - Cool!! I've always wanted to build one, but what is a good servo supplyer for this type of project
Say it module - Awesome product, but not economically usefull. If you ever wanted to put a project using it on Gadget Gangster or such, it would be extremilly expensive
Stepper Motor - I don't have experience with one. (even better reason to buy it!)
PCB Printing Kit - Yea! What would you recommend? I've always wanted one....
433Mz Transciever - Wireless technology is something that facinates me, I'll get this for sure.
Raymans display - I have an order for his touchscreen already. Is it worth $100 for the PSM??
Breakout with touch - Yes. This is one for sure, I just hope my dad will order off a forum.....
X - band Motion detector - This is something I know I would have fun with. I am curious: how does it work?
All advanced sensors - I really should, I don't own a single sensor!! rolleyes.gif What would you suggest to get?
Progamming books - Which ones do you suggest?·I want the Propeller one comming out in febuary, but what non-parallax ones should I get?
Basic Electronics theory books - I don't own one. I do have a componant encyclopedia, but that isn't what you're talking about
A 101 electronics project kit - Have one and finished it when I was 9
Math books - 10th grade geometry is hard enough, and i'm not a fan of math!! smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif
Heat gun - "I'll just loosen up some of these parts..." *woosh* "AHHH!!! It's on fire!!!!"· smile.gif· This one is a go!! A propane torch I've been using usually fries the parts with the board.....roll.gif
Toster oven - Oh! That would be great! Then I can really SMD!!
Scope - I don't have one, and I don't know if it would be worth the money. It's probley like the Demo Board. Once I got it I didn't know how I·went without it!
Books - I have a lot and I need a lot.
Data structures & Problem Solving Using JAVA - I'll look into it.

Thanks for the list so far. Any other suggestions are welcome!!
Thanks agian Ken! I wouldn't be half as far along in my electronics and programming if it hadn't been for you!!

MATLAB Student copies are not that bad priced.

Some of my text books I may recomend:
Technical mathematics with Calculus SI Edition - Paul Calter & David Egerton(Has everything to do with electronics except Z transforms)
Circuit Analysis Theory and Practice - Robbins & Miller
Electronic Devices - Floyd

of these the Math is the most important. The others you can easily find bits and pieces of on google. The data structures text I mentioned before is geared towards Java but it will change the way you think about data and how to manipulate it.

You don't have to know Calculus mathematics to write programs, but learning to love math now will help when you get to Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, etc.... Math is necessary in engineering disciplines like computer science or electronics which can translate into $120+ a year jobs with a Bachelors of Science degree. Learning data-structures (how data is stored) and algorithms (how data is manipulated, among other things) in some language are key to serious programming.

The math punishments you may be experiencing now are laying a foundation for your success. Just hold your breath and do your work - you'll be fine.

You're right. Math books should be in there, even if I don't like it, but it would be really hard for me to ask for a book for my birthday that is requireing me to spend even more time on math.... smile.gif
Any other ideas?

Thats so right. The addage "an old head on yound Shoulders" is a statement of fact. Leard now it will be the foundation for your whole future.

I ignored calculus when I was at school and then entered into a science that uses little else.

I agree but would stick with Java at first ... C++ has weird stuff in it and could be easily "distracting".
Now books like that for Spin might find a ready made market.

Of course none of the books really sound like birthday joy like the EL wire stuff :)

I know only BASIC and SPIN so JAVA would be good to add to the list.
