Sorry to be snarky, but "find the data sheet"?

Really, this stuff isn't magic. If you don't have the documentation, then applying stuff reliably can be very difficult.

there are no instructions that came with the motor.

i was told to figure out how to use, hook up, and make it work from my boss.

the only thing i can find is the diffrent types of stepper motors and how it rotates.

Four-wire steppers are bipolar, but without the mood swings. There are two coils, each connected to a pair of wires. What you need to do is measure the resistance between pairs of wires to determine how the two coils are connected. Usually, there will be a voltage and current rating stamped on the back of the motor itself. This type of motor has to be driven with a dual H-bridge, such as the L293D or any of Parallax's motor controllers rated for bipolar use.

GaleGlory here is a decent link I was in the same boat Phil is right 4 wire are bipolar """mood swings"" that's good I know a few people that are bipolar and few that are unipolar lol

Anyway if you are having trouble connecting it my I suggest using a ULN2803 I have used L293-L298 but you can easily stack the ULN's on top of each other if you need more than 500ma ,, is there any writing on your stepper at all??? if there is anyhting include and I will try and help find a data sheet

In this case just enter the number you know ..... 4218L-01-11 in the GOOGLE search box and hit enter ..... and ZAP, you have your answer.

Just scroll down this list of sites until you see one for www.linengineering.com and click on it.
