    Lab Rat,

Please edit your post and add a subject line....

www.batchpcb.com is the cheapest place but it does take some time to get the boards back (they are actually made in China). If you are looking for American made boards, I do not know who is cheapest.

If you need large panels...Gold Phoenix in China.

By "get them made" do you mean after you have designed them and done all the layout? or are you talking about giving your paper schematic to somebody and having them do all the layout, etc. from the ground up? You can probably save a ton of money if you at least do the layout yourself, which probably wouldn't be too hard to learn.

Nuts and volts uses a service called batch pcb I think. They take small orders until they have enough for a panel and then run it. The turnaround time varies but the price is reasonable.

gold phenix is dirt cheap if you want a lot. If you need 4 layer board and are finished the design I may be able to fit in my current panel.

thats a nice offer mctrivia but i havent even started a design yet i am kinda still in the research part of R & D
i have looked at your propmad products and i am thinking about buying eventually what i am curious of is how you solder the prop chip to the board it looks like the contacts are undernieth the chip and it confuses a me since i am unfamiliar with surface mount procedures. i am still in the through hole. but i am looking to convert to surface mount to conserve space in my projects

I use a stencil, solder paste and a reflow oven.

Don't use qfn or bga chips unless you plan to get an oven.

ok thats sounds like a legitimate method thank you for the info. i will be using QFP when i put my boards together but for experimenting i will have to get a DIP when they become available. oh and while i am thinking of it how was the fireworks display?

you can get stencils from http://ohararp.com/

reflow ovens are expensive so i use a convection toaster oven as one. works just as good but requires some babysitting.

there are two types of microwaves, Standard microwaves and convection microwaves. a standard microwave only has a magnetron but a convection microwave has heating elements and a magnetron and can be used one at a time so if i want convection it only uses the heating elements. if i want microwave it only uses the magnetron. which of course i save all the pieces from the microwaves i ripped apart so i have multiple heating elements.
