Power Plug

Spin Studio and many other products seem to use the same power supply plug on there boards. I can't seem to find though in digikey. Anyone know a part number or what category to look under?

also what size is it?

The are pretty standard, as long as the same size, 2.1mm

Parallax uses the same size on all their boards too.

If you use any surface-mount connectors, make sure they have at least one plastic nib that protrudes through a hole in the PCB. These provide not only alignment, but also — and more importantly — stress relief, so that repeated pluggings and unpluggings don't loosen the foil pads' adhesion to the board. It also doesn't hurt to add vias close to the pads to help anchor them in place.

Also, the thru-hole parts come in two flavors: one (CP-202A) requiring large holes or slots; another (CP-102A), small holes. You will notice that Parallax uses the former, even though they seem not to be optimum for PCB mounting, due to the required hole size and the amount of solder required to attach them. The reason is simple: they're much easier to multiple-source than the small-pin variety. Plus, they can probably handle more currentl.

The one I listed has 2 stress relief pins. I have learned running multiple small via under pads is a great way to keep pads from lifting. In multi layer boards I some times have no visible traces.
