PS2 Keyboard - Anyone able to tell me the 5V current requirement??

Unfortunately interstate and cannot verify just what current is likely in a PS2 keyboard. I would like to use a smaller regulator but don't know what to expect.

It depends on the keyboard and can vary widely. If there's a lot of "bells and whistles" and a lot of LEDs in the keyboard, the current draw could be over 100mA. I suspect that 100mA to 150mA would cover most keyboards' current demands.

I've had 'em anywhere from about 10mA through to about 300mA. I designed a product around the one I had at home, which was about 15mA and it fell to bits when I plugged one in that wanted 300mA.

Thanks Mike & Brad - I was wondering if I could get away with a SOT23 5V regulator but I guess I best use the SOT252.

SOT23 regs are fine for PS2 as any recent keyboard in the last 10 years or more draws very little current and those little things are good for around 150 to 250ma. I also use a small 8-pin MSOP that is good for 500ma but that is overkill. Now if you happen to plug in one of the original PS2 keyboards with 8042 NMOS chips then beware!!! But I don't think that is going to happen or you should allow then for the XT keyboards then that someone might plug in via an adaptor! Common sense should prevail somewhere surely.
