Stingray Socket Connectors - SOLVED!

Hey All,

The socket connectors for the Stingray's motors are listed as Molex #0351560200. Is this the same connector that is used for the battery wiring? It looks the same in the pics.

I did a search at Digi-Key and could not find this number. Any ideas were I can find some? I also did a search at the Molex site and got something really different looking. See - http://www.molex.com/molex/products/listview.jsp?query=&offset=0&filter=&npp=20&path=cHome%23%23-1%23%23-1%7E%7EcCRIMPHOUSINGS%23%230%23%232vc%7E%7Ef48%7C%7C3335313536%7E%7Enf13%7C%7C32&sType=a&fs=&autoNav=&channel=Products&Lang=en-US

·I was thinking of experimenting with·various battery packs and having an easy to plug in connector would be great. Also the female would be good for develping a charger connection.

    Whit,

    That part number looks like the mating connector for the motor header. Ignore the pin count in the illustration on Molex's website. The description says two pins.

    That may not be the "real" part number, though. Every Molex part has two part numbers. The one typically catalogued has dashes in it. It's weird and frustrating, I know, but Molex has always been that way.

    I looks like the "real" part number (i.e. order number) is 35156-0200, which Mouser carries.

    At least the part number and order number are similar this time. I've seen cases where they're not even related.

    Thanks so much Phil!

    I assumed the picture was of the actual connector. (You know how that goes...) I now see the fine print on the picture - "Series image - Reference only"

    I will try to remember the part number secret, but it looks like I was on the right track even though I was too dumb to·know it! blush.gif I appreciate the help.

    Does Parallax sell the Motor A and Motor B and battery pack socket connectors for the Propeller Robot Control Board (PRCB)?

    It seems like a very nice option to suggest when ordering the Propeller Robot Control Board.

    Does anyone have more information about how to obtain these connectors - where to get them? I've searched using the Parallax web site as well as the information listed above but I can't find them and my attempts at ghetto-rigging aren't successful.

    Thanks,

    Scope

    @Scope,

    See the link above in Phil's post or here http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Molex/35156-0200/?qs=404muyNbhLFp%2fz0kQHbJyQ%3d%3d

    Don't be fooled by the picture - read the specs.

    :) Well I get all my connectors from my job working on copier machines. Almost any and all connectors are in these. When we scrap some down and are ready to be trash, all connectors, wire, electronic boards, motors and sensors and taken home with me and stored in my used box pile for further rip down and sorting. Total cost with out labor $0.00

    Scope,

    On the Mouser page linked above for the connector is a link to the product data sheet. It lists the "metal thingy" as part number 50217. See here - http://www.mouser.com/_/?Keyword=538-50217&FS=True I think this is what you need.

    Ordering stuff like this is always a learning process! Hope this helps...

    I got like twenty of these connectors for the two boards I have. One of these boards is in The Peanut Tin of Terror. I really would prefer screw terminals like the ones in the servo controller. They seem about as strong physically and they are much easier to use. If you make a prop robot board with screw terminal wire connectors I promise I will buy one!

    Screw terminals have a couple issues that make them unsuitable for certain apps:

    1. You have to connect and disconnect each wire separately, making the reconnection prone to errors, and
    2. The screws can work loose under vibration.

    Push-on crimp connectors suffer neither shortcoming, which is why they're often preferred.

    @Scope - should be fine.

    @Phil - Thanks as always for the insight!

    I suggest Parallax to add three appropriate connectors to the kit.

    Yes you can buy them from Mouser, but in addition to the 2 euros cost you are charged 20 euros for freight...

    That makes those connectots VERY expensives...

    I paid shipping when I got the connectors from the vendor - ouch.

    I then paid shipping again when I realized I had to obtain the metal inserts - double ouch!

    If the Propeller Robot Control Board uses proprietary connectors, should Parallax offer them with the list of other hardware and accessories?

    If so, this would have saved me lots of time, money, and frustration.
