Fried USB problem

The USB section of one of my USB Proto Boards got fried somehow. It may have had a problem from the beginning - I had noticed that the red LED on the USB section was on much more than normal - but since the board seemed to be behaving normally in all other ways I went ahead and used it. I've gone over my wiring on the protoboard a whole bunch of times and can't find anything I've done (this was a fairly simple project) that should affect the USB section. In particular, I have no connections to any of the IO pins in the P24 through P31 range. But two days ago, it suddenly had no USB support. The USB LED's don't blink at all, and the computer can no longer see the board. cry.gif

But I really don't want to trash the board, so I've been thinking about putting a 4 pin header on and using my PropPlug to program the Prop. Are there traces from the now dead USB section I will need to cut to protect my PropPlug from whatever is wrong with the on board USB??

Sure. You'll have to find the TX, RX, and Reset traces from the USB adapter and cut them. Consult the on-line schematic for the USB Protoboard.

Pyrotom before I started cutting up my board I would make sure windows did not do somehting to your driver. I can not tell you how many times for no apparent reason windows trashed my driver and I had to reload it, if you were running other programs or installing other software it could have happened. Just a thought

    Hi Pyrotom.

It is posible it is only some soldering problems.

Push carefuly USB connector to PCB in same time You test connection to PC else push FTDI IC same way under test.
Mostly it is them that can have solderings problems.
But my gues is that it is USB conector that have solderings problems.

Definitely not a Windows problem - I can still talk to my PPDB just fine....
