Power supply delivered with StampWorks S/N PXX1210AM1200100, Parallax #750-00007 is a 100-240VAC 0.5A to 12.0VDC 1.0A supply. How this device can deliver the same output i.e. 12.0VDC 1.0A when it is connected on 115VAC or on 220VAC (continental Europe)?

If you jumper wires to its prongs then you'll run into a situation.· Not good.· To use that unit you'll need a 2:1 step-down transformer, maybe·farnell has one.·

Odds are better that you can obtain a 220vac unit, similarly rated ("12V, 1A"), over there anyway.

Many "wall-wart" power supplies used these days have a switching regulator inside that's designed to take the 115VAC to 230VAC, rectify it to get somewhere between 180VDC to 360VDC, then produce high frequency PWM pulses that goes through a very small transformer where it's then rectified again and filtered to produce the 12VDC. Read the Wikipedia article on switching regulators for details ([url=http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alimentation_

OK, that's what you meant (??).

It's a "wide-range" input switching supply.· That's how it does what it does.
