I'd also add Programming Principles and Practice Using C++. It uses another language, but the "principles" part makes up most of the book.
The Pragmatic Programmer is an excellent book on ideas of making your programming more productive.

I have to say though:

a) Once again UKProp'ers get stung on price (USD = 32.97; GBP = 35.99!) Wha?!

b) In this day of t'internet, I'd expect a downloadable version. I'm assuming it's being printed already, so the content is surely available electronically?
