I forgot the password. Now what do I do?

I forgot my user name or password. Now what do I do?
If you are unable to remember your user name or password, you can click the link below the login form that says "Forget your login information? CLICK HERE". This will take you to another form where you can enter your e-mail address that you used when you registered your account. Your login information will be mailed to the address you enter.

The problem is I do not know the password or the email address used years ago when the account was registered. When I use the current email address, no login information is sent there. How can this be resolved?

    Sorry Humanoido...but I was sitting here wondering the same thing...you just posted a message, but your post indicates your forgot your login information (thus not able to get in)? You can always set your e-mail address in the control panel. You can also change your password there. So if you can get in, you can set that stuff at any time. I hope this helps. Take care.

    He could have a second account on the forum, whose password he's forgotten. Hey, I've thought about doing it — an evil twin, maybe, who could say things I wouldn't dare! smile.gif

    I have often thought to put up a second account (except that it is against forum rules!) where I only answer intellectual, hard questions that make me think, instead of responding like 90% of my posts to non-technical threads that, if they do help anybody, do not do it in a technological way. When I come to the forum, I'm usully relaxing; I don't want to have to think! (how DID he post? Can a guest post in THIS forum? Oh wait, he has his avatar and everything, Hmmmm)

    There is a valid scenario where you can still get into the forum, and you wouldn't necessisarily need to remember your password....

    If you are at the login page, and you have set your browser to "remember who you are" then you can completely get in without knowing your password.
    The same problem can exist if you are >IN< and you try to change your password to something that you can actually remember... you still need to know your OLD password to change it to a NEW password so you are in the same boat.

    What you can do if you are already >IN< is to go to your profile and change your E-mail address there.... THEN when you are next at the login you can have it send a new password to the 'new' E-mail address and reset it that way.

    You are exactly correct in your assessment of the situation and the solution - it worked perfect. Thank you very much for solving this dilemma that went on for some time. Have a very good day. Thanks to everyone with helpful and interesting posts. I sincerely appreciate this.

    Incidentally, I found a (potential) security hole in Chrome. It allows you to view any saved password by simply navigating to the correct options window and selecting "view password". It might as well be taped to the side of the computer.

    Interesting, SRLM - is it a bug, oversight, or intended feature? But if there's an option "view password' then it was clearly intentional. (But that doesn't mean that the programmer had a whit of sense about security, eh?)

    @Phil - if you make a doppelgaenger of yourself, how can you be sure *he* won't claim that *you're* his evil twin?
    hehehe

    @micro - I like your attitude!

    LOL! Now that would be an interesting experiment in its own right — to see if anyone believed it! But, then again, would I really want to know ... smile.gif
