Jackpot: Old chips!

My friend Brian pulled an old modem sharing box from the local hospital.

It was on it's way to a scrap pile when he phoned me to take a quick look at it.

Tons of Zilog chips, static rams, etc.
(Still Googling part numbers!)

Got four of these boards, plus a couple others.

OBC, Wish I would have known last week that you would consider that a jackpot. I just sent a box of boards to the recycler that was from an old NEC Electra Phone system. (I scavenged the 28v/5v power supply and 12v battery back-up circuit) The main board had a about half as many Zilog parts as your pic and lots of familiar DIPs/SOJs. I guess I need to visit the forums before I send things to the recycler.

That board looks like an early 80's design that was manufactured in 93 or 94 with some more up-to-date smd pcbs plugged in. By the early 90's there were already a lot more integrated solutions to design with although the Zilog SCC chips didn't have much competition. But just look at all the buffer and glue logic chips required!!! The parts should keep some of these forum members happy Cluso could even abandon his CPM project and deal with the real thing, so long Ray, nice having you on the Prop forum

Peter: No way! I just want to use the minimum modern chips for fun. Today, that just happens to be using them in an old fashioned way
The Prop has given me so much fun that my Spartan 3A FPGA has been retired to the closet.

Clock Loop

What everyone SHOULD look out for are boards with wire wrap.

Those things usually have most of the DIPS easily removable.

Nice find some of those chips look like they are in sockets nice find I am always looking for scarp boards for parts I use a small Wal-Mart Zip torch it comes with a bunch of different attachments I just blast the bottom of the board and melt the solder the only problem is the smell you must do it outside because it really stinks but its about 1000 times faster than hand de-soldering each pin
