auto-off to save battery charge

i would like the propellor to turn the circuit off to save battery life. I would like to turn the circuit on using a momentary contact switch, then to turn off the circuit with a signal from the controller. I believe this "auto-off" ability should be a common problem, but i haven't been able to find any information on the web! any help is greatly appreciated!

There are several such circuits that have been posted in the past. I don't have a link. You'll just have to browse the Propeller forum's threads. It was a year or so ago.

Make sure to try the Google search engine (search.parallax.com) with a variety of keywords.

Both of those circuits are from my original drawings ...

The first circuit "poweroff.gif" is an original concept for the Propeller where the power "on" latency needed to be accounted for.

The second circuit "poweroffswitch.gif" is an improved version over the first, and designed to operate under a lower input voltage.

Thank you for the drawings! This is exactly what I was looking for. I will try them and let you know how it goes.

It bewilders me that this is not a more popular problem.

many of the people here do not worry about power savings. evident by the fact most use linear regulators.
