Accesories to implement into my projects?

Hi,
· I have the··PS/2 to Breadboard Adapter·and connected to that I also have a PS/2 to USB Coverter. From that can I plug in any accesory such as a mouse, keyboard, or barcode scanner. I wanted to ask to make sure that I don't ruin my propeller chip or accessory.

If so, do any of you have some example programs for say, a barcode scanner? I know its kinda random.

Provided you wire it up with the correct resistors as indicated in the documentation, you will be fine.

As for barcodes, I was under the impression that most PS2 readers emulated a keyboard and sent char codes representing the barcode...· You probably just have to use the keyboard object to collect the data.

I can confirm, I have one of these (pen kind with ps2 keyboard pass-through).

I tried the Keyboard Demo, but I get know info on the display. It doesn't even look like the barcode scanner is even powered. Any help?

[Edit:] I thought you might want to know. That it is a laser bar code scanner. I don't know if that makes any difference.

Double check your wiring and test with a std ps2 keyboard to eliminate the barcode reader as the problem.

The wiring is all good. The keyboard works perfectly with it.

I also plugged the barcode scanner into my computer and it worked fine. Maybe the converter is the problem? Cause when the barcode scanner was plugged into my computer I could see the laser. But not when it is plugged in the the propeller.

What kind of bc reader is that (make / model)?· Is it a 'wedge' type that also allows the std keyboard to run through it?

I'd say you Propeller setup is correct, but obviously the bc reader does not like something.

One thought that comes to mind is your 5V source may not have enough current for the bc reader to operate properly.

It is made by Voyager Model #MS9520. It says that it runs on 5v.

Does it require a ps2 keyboard plugged into it by some chance?

I note the specs say it requires 165ma, I'm guessing that you are supplying that but what is your 5V source?

Finally, I can't run it, but is there any settings in the configuration utility that might be applicable?

How would I plug a keyboard into it as well?

I have plugged the bc scanner into the Propeller Demo Board.

Sorry I am kinda a newbie but, what is the Configuration Utility?

Also, in the user guide, there are configuration scan codes used to set different options such as Stand Alone Keyboard Emulation (pg· 16-8)...· perhaps you need to use one of these?

Many PS2 barcode readers are 'wedge' styles that insert between a std keyboard and the pc; they have a female jack for the keyboard to plug into so that both units can communicate with the pc (in other words, you don't have to go without a keyboard to use the scanner).· Not sure if your is this style or not.

As for the configuration utility, no idea other than I found it on the manufacturers page.
