I have a bunch of Military tech books, these are from a
correspondence course for personnel to get college credits
and learn new skills. Some of these are very good smile.gif

They are not copyrighted... I don't think any books produced
by the government are.

I could email these out if anyone wants them. I can't email them to everyone
but you guys could pass them around among yourselves.

I will try to attach one to this post so you can see what they are like..
they are not very large files. I suppose I could post more here in this
thread but I don't know if they want that much stuff posted to the forum.

Should you get lots of requests, I'd suggest posting them on mctrivia's hosting site. It's specfically made for these sorts of things (large files), and you can use your forum id. Maybe even just zip them all together into a package.

I think I have all the NEETS books...I have a huge number
of tech book pdf's.

There are also online courses, books and videos about tech subjects
available for free from MIT and other places.

I need some really good math refresher books.

I had calculus in HS but I forgot all of it the minute
the last class was over smile.gif

I saw a few 'For Dummies' math books but I hate
to buy books if free online stuff is available.

that anywhere but here.

mctrivia (forum member) says that it just passes it to the forum and tests it that way (no signup). For what it's worth, I trust mctriva and have used his site. If you're really concerned (but like the idea), you could aways make a temporary account on the forums for uploading.

Holly,

If you are interested in reviewing calculus, I must recommend: Calculus made easy by Thompson

Late in school I really wanted a refresher in calculus. One of my professors recommended it. I only wish I would have had it when I was initially learning calc

Its funny because the full title of the book is:

Calculus Made Easy: Being a Very-Simplest Introduction to Those Beautiful Methods of Reckoning Which Are Generally Called by the Terrifying Names of the Differential Calculus and the Integral Calculus

Did I mention it was written about 100 years ago?

another idea if you do not trust me with your password is temporarily change your password log in and change back. the site only checks your password when you log in and will not check again as long as your browser keeps the session open.

The source codes for my site are here if you are curious on how it works. Basically tries to log on to forum. if sucessfull it gives you access.

I would be very interested in reading the documents.

I am trying out a file storage site to see how it works.

I'm at work and operating my pc at home remotely over
the net so it's cumbersome. I will update this post as I
get titles uploaded so keep checking back.
If anyone else has interesting titles go ahead and upload
them to this site or wherever and list the links here.
This could be useful to people here, who can afford
100's of books? Some of these free books are better than you
can buy. This would be a great place to put some C language
tutorials, I have several of those.

Let me know how the downloading from this site goes.

lol...the server truncated the name and changed it to elated mathematics smile.gif

That's all for right now...must do some work.
That Ziddu site works very well.
I'm at work using a pc at my workbench linked to my pc at home over an encrypted link.
The pc at home is on the web through an encrypted proxy chain and still the files upload
quickly and smoothly...except the progress bar never shows up until the file is completely
uploaded.

Actual books huh, were you in the military?

@AJM
Thanks for the book recommendation, maybe that title is on the net somewhere
it being so old....would be a good one to link to in this thread.
I had a hard time learning enough calculus to pass the tests when I was in HS
maybe I needed this book then. My teacher was great, she had the patience
to teach math to me (a math hater) and that proves she was a great teacher.

@Oldbitcollector
Thanks for the link, I will go see what's there later when I have time.

@mctrivia
It's not that I don't trust you mctrivia, I just have a set of strict rules I follow
on the net. I'm an assembly coder and following strict rules has become second
nature in everything I do smile.gif

On the web I never

-Post images of myself or others I know personally, I only send by email to trusted people.
-Never divulge info that locates me physically (unfortunately this precludes things like listing
ham calls as that sort of thing is a public record and is tied to your address...anyone can thus
look up your address and from that get phone #'s etc)
-Never engage in bootlegging of copyrighted materials....someone worked hard to create the stuff.
-Always use proxies for unknown sites.
-Never connect to the net unless behind both a hardware and software firewall.
-Re-load the image for the C drive of the pc I use on the net at least once a week to clear out any trojans, etc that
may have sneaked in.
-Never enter password from a site in response to an email that purports to be from that site.
-Always use temporary credit cards or paypal for net transactions.
-Never answer email from Nigeria wink.gif
-Never divulge passwords to a third party.
-Never write down passwords, key codes, encryption keys...etc
-Encrypt all hard drives except C using TrueCrypt (C gets reloaded from images often anyway)
-Don't have a drive with sensitive data on it unencrypted while the pc is on the net.

Some of the rules may seem a bit paranoid to guys, but things are just different for girls
on the net...I have dealt with several hassles after meeting some strange characters on
the internet.

I was in the Navy 6 years. Finished with E6 rank First Class Petty Officer ... same "seniority" as a Staff Sargent in the Marines.
Most of the books I have are not on your list ... Avionics stuff (Aviation Electronics). I have one called Digital Computer Basics that summarizes a few things like Core Memory ... which I actually had to maintain once as part of a larger system used to do audio Fourier transforms.

In 1987 I left the Navy (finally!) for a job at Link Flight Simulation and eventually moved into Network Switch and Router embedded software design at Cisco. I'm between jobs today since March 2008, but am enjoying my time off. Job interviews I've had have been mostly with pompous, fascist, institutionalized C programmers ... ugh!

Sorry if that was TMI wink.gif

PS: I've often dreamed of going back to Diego Garcia BIOT ... living in a mosquito ridden plywood shack is no fun. Just like Gilligan :)

HollyMinkowski i don't mind if people do not trust me. i think security is very important and why i either do not store passwords at all(method used for uploader) or i only keep a salted md5 of password. in this way not even I can log into someone elses account even knowing the contents of my database. i would hate for a hacker to be able to get any useful info from my server.

I bet the military was fun!
I have considered taking a job in Israel, it was offered to me while at
a seminar a while ago, (they liked the questions I was asking the speakers smile.gif)
I have been hanging on to that business card for months now.

But if I go to take the job it is almost certain I will have to serve in the IDF
as I have dual citizenship. But it does look like fun so it would not be all bad.
You see IDF girls walking around Tel Aviv all the time in their regular clothes
but carrying a machine gun strung over their shoulder...it must be required?
I was with friends at a fast food place and there must have been at least
10 people with machine guns!!!! hard to get used to seeing that.

You must know all about Linksys routers, I love the 'l' models that you can
hack the software on...I have been trying to come up with a project to
add a propeller to one of my Linksys routers...not needed really as the routers
have powerful processors already but you know how it is with the prop, you
get so you want to add one to everything. My hair dryer has one now (just kidding)

"pompous, fascist, institutionalized C programmers"
I know some of those...I just hope I'm not one of them lol.

It was fun in the Philippines for 2 weeks but that's about it ... it did vastly broaden my perspective on my life though. I have a few of those Linksys WiFi routers, but never dug into them ... I know they run Linux only because of "the lawsuit." Most of my work was with big to really big products. My last product had 96 MIPS 64 cores in it in one 1U cardslot (1.5"x15x20) up to 10 per chassis. THAT was a blast :)

On of my biggest regrets after leaving the Navy was not snatching a set of printed NEETS modules. I had a couple sets in my shop. My ship was being decommissioned and they probably got thrown out anyway. It seems the government doesn't print them anymore.

Holly,

try google docs

http://docs.google.com/

it's probably the easiest of all mentioned.

you can dump them all into a dir and share it without revealing anything... you could also create a gmail account just for this if you're really paranoid.

@Jay Kickliter

It is nice to have actual paper books.
I have so many books though, I have been scanning them in
and then giving the books away. I just don't have any room
for more books on the shelves. And if you put them in boxes
you may as well toss them out because you will never unpack
the boxes again anyway. Plus, now that they are scanned in
I can open one from work or from anywhere over the net by
connecting to the pc at home.

@CounterRotatingProps
I will look into google docs ...thanks smile.gif

_oOo_(^^)_oOo_

A friend here said it was a representation
of something that was drawn by graffiti artists
in the 40's. It was supposed to be a man named
Kilroy and the joke was that the images drawn all over
made it seem like the guy was everywhere at once. ... cool smile.gif
