I posted about this before...and I had sooo many great responses, I can't find that thread now via Google or the Search Function.

Traveling out of town to visit a bud for a surprise 30th Birthday.
I want to get him started in the propeller.

Here is what I'm bringing thus far to give...do you guys see anything missing?

Hardware:
SpinStudio Main Board
SpinStudio Audio/Video Board
SpinStudio Keyboard/Mouse Board
(I soldered and tested all of these together, thanks uController for the great Expo Price)
PropPlug
MiniUSB Cable
RCA Video Cable
Stereo Audio Cable
RadioShack 9v Wall wart

Printed SpinStudio MainBoard Documentation

Software:
PropTool Obviously..this has the manual...examples..etc
Also the Propeller Cookbook for sure.
I also got some N&V Articles and code to go with
The PEFun LABS PDF and the Code.
The ParallaxSerialTerminal

Anything else?

Thanks for your replies,

Rick

    I'm sure you will!
I know he's really going to enjoy this, we used to program QBasic (somewhat competatively lol) in high school.
The propeller is the closest thing that brings back that enjoyment for me.

I hope the SpinStudio will give him the opportunity to just jump right in.

I'm sure he'll be on the forums...he's on Xbox enough ;)

He's a great buddy, I wouldn't be flying to yell "surprise" for too many people ;)
Its easy to take for granted what you have around the house/shop with electronics·stuff, and I'll be out of town, so I'm trying to make sure he has enough to fool around on the spot.

An SD card adapter would be a nice addition, with PropDOS/PropCMD pre-loaded on the·Spin Studio main board.

Yes, a great gift! I second the SD adapter and card.

I've also found a stereo 1/8 jack -2- stereo 1/8 jack cable a handy thing to have in my bag
these days. I can plug it into the "line in" of my laptop's sound card and not have to
worry about a set of headphones or speakers for my Propeller.

I agree the SD Card adapter would be a good idea..but sadly I wont be able to get him one as I leave tommorow.
I threw in the audio cable that you mentioned OBC.

I think he will have enough free time to have some fun.

    it's already a great gift
but if you would like to have some more suggestions:

    how about a breadboard ?
connectors and flatband cable for the mainboard ?
    a 64k EEPROM ?
    a ULN2803 ?
a connector for the mainboard with just 8 LEDs on it as a quick IO-visualiser ?

    some demo-programs from the obex
also this incredible "turbulence" audio-video-demo from lfd (Linus Akesson)

best regards and birthday-greatings to your friend

    @CassLan,

Second StefanL38 with the demos from the OBEX

Also, the Hydra(Game) forum has all sorts of fun.
Other than the "turbulence" demo, you might include the source for a few of Bagger's games (Maniac Miner, Jet Pac, etc.) as they can be configured easily for that kind of setup. So could Mythic Flight ;) Also, for VGA, Progue or Prop Chess are fun.

You are including ASCIIWing though, right?

Yeah, it just hit me that to my knowledge he wont even be able to do a "blink" program, but I can show him a Hello World on TV :)

Ahh!! that demo is a great idea!
