Have a look at Tibbo programable modules. I have a EM1000 and I am reserching its potentials. Both the EM1000 and the new EM1206 have also a WiFi plug-on board. You can have wired and wireless connection at the same time. The WiFi module communicate with Tibbo platform over a spi interface. They states the WiFi is working only on Tibbo platform but I believe you can use it alone if you know the spi command protocol.

Beside this I have used Lantronix products. From the early feelings I see in Tibbo one gear more. They are not just usual serial over tcp but you can program them (basic) and preprocess data or manage ftp file transfers/ web server/ e-mail. Regarding the reliability I can not say nothing because I am not using it enough long. With Lantronix (XPort/XportAR)·I never had problems.

Thanks, I knew it came up before, but I thought I'd see if there was any more current
input from the crowd on this one. :)

OBC-

I think I'm only one of many who use XBee with the prop. Or are you looking for 802.11b specific solutions?

It's just as useful for me most of the time as google (which is just as much of a PITA when it returns 39000 hits).
I've been waiting for updates for a very long time from some forum members wifi results.

We are using the Lantronix Match Port, it does Ethernet / WiFly and will also bridge between the two. The modules are around
$75 in small quantities. If you need higher security an AES version is available for a couple dollars more.

OBC,
I HAVE ONE (2 actually) i have been waiting to post until i have had something remarkable. I love the device though. Extremely easy to use!! i love this device. I am using it to make my project communicate with a webserver out there, some where. Did i mention, easy to use? I have used the Digi ME WI and the lantronix. This only draws 160 mah when transmitting and when it isnt, it can sleep for a very long time on very little current. Chip antenna is great or you can use an external antenna, just specify in the command area. I have been working on a "driver" object for all the commands. Makes it really easy. It does WPA WEP, and others. (dont have the spec sheet in front of me) Also run it in adhoc and have wirless control of your project.

Those do look nice. But, the XBee looks a lot cheaper! If I'm reading it right you can do serial comms with 2 of either, but the Matchport is ~$80 and the XBee is ~$20. Factoring in that I'd want 2 of them, I think I'd go XBee...

On the other hand, it looks like the Matchport could connect to a "real" WiFi network, so you'd only need 1 of them to connect to your computer...

For low cost and short range wireless the Nordic RF nRF24L01+ or TI CC2500 chips are ideal.

Leon: The Nordic things at Sparkfun.com do look very easy to use... There's one with a chip antenna for just $19... Also comes in FOB and RFL controller packages..

Those SFE modules are quite easy to use - just an SPI interface. I've used them with PICs.

I have been in the hospital for the past week.

I have a WiFly module but hospital stays keep getting in the way.

Mike Green or OBC, I would like to send you one if you reciprocate with results.
