Interesting. yeah.gif There are other SMD Tweezer devices on the marked at around $300 (with additional features) but for $29.95 these tweezers are hard to beat.
========================================================================================================================

A very convenient & small tool for testing SMD (Surface Mount Device) components, for example chip type resistors, capacitors and diodes. In addition it has a continuity function. The MS8910 functions as smart tweezers and will automatically identify the listed components allowing fully automatic detection and measurement.

Designed to meet IEC1010-1 standard and stipulation of 2-Population Grade.

Conforms to European Union Requirement CE 89/336 (EMC Electromagnetic Compatibility)

The entire surface of the case is made of thermo plastic elastomer

Test pins are gold plated to reduce contact resistance and to prevent rust.

Complete with storage case, battery and extra tip set.

General Features

* Auto Scanning Mode/Auto Range
* Display 3 2&3digit (3000 counts) display
* Over load protection
* DATA HOLD Function
* `FUNC' key manually hold the current reading
* Low battery indicator
* Auto Power Off
* Power Supply: 3V Lithium Battery (CR2032) 1pc

    That's a great find, Bob! I always wondered why the nationally-advertised brand was so expensive. Do you have one of these yet? If so, can you share your experiences with it?

    Currently have a set of these low-end versions. They work pretty close to the same as the Excelta model that I had at my previous employer. Main differences:

    The Excelta Intellitweeze model:
    has a response time much faster and stable, doesn't fluctuate once it settles.
    is a full LCR meter, the 29.99 one doesn't do inductance
    reads voltage, DC to 8v
    Is much more durable with higher quality tips.

    No, I am not a salesman for Excelta. I also think they cost way too much. But, when comparing the two, you do get what you pay for. I and all of the tech/inspectors were really happy with the Excelta model. The $30 set at my current employer gets used occasionally, but it's not treated as a must-have. If you are looking for a tool to aid in hand placing SMT resistors and caps, the $30 version will work fine and is a great tool. Be careful around really low capacitance values as the readings are not real stable.

    ps. I only paid $200 each when I got the Exceltas.

    @phil: Do you have one of these yet?

    No, I just saw it a few days ago. I have been looking at the Excelta Intellitweeze model for some time but wouldn't use it that much to justify the price @$427.24 +/-. However, the Smart SMD Tweezers At $29, I'm game jumpin.gif (hobbyist price). I realize that it's lacking features (in comparison the Excelta Intellitweeze model:) but I am mostly interested in using it to identify components quickly. When using/working with SMD components, trying to identify them visually can be a challenge. A unit such as the Smart SMD Tweezers would be helpful for that . yeah.gif

    Excelta R-C-L Tweezer Meter - Amazon Price Example:

    Excelta R-C-L Tweezer Meter, IntelliTweeze, For SMD, TM-200
    Other products by EXCELTA CORP
    No customer reviews yet. Be the first.
    Price: $427.24

    Ordering from Canada it would be : $427.24 I would have to add the shipping cost, Customs Cost, PST/HST(13% tax) cost etc.... Too much for a hobbyist. smilewinkgrin.gif
