PSM - no prop found - " FOUND IT "

Picked up Propeller System Module at the UPENE.

Tried to load PSM demos last night in motel room using laptop.
ERROR - "No propeller chip found on any serial port" every time.
The red light on the module does flash (once I think) when F10.
PSM resets, then runs pre-programmed Graphics Demo.
Graphics Demo is a very impressive program, however...

Ran a test with two USB Proto boards and a Demo Board, all OK.
Now I'm home using desktop - exactly the same message.

I need help, please.

Roger

This may seem silly... but are you using a Propeller plug, or does the board have the FTDI chip onboard? If you are using the PropPlug, are you sure it's connected the right way and not backwards?

    thanks Philldapill

the PSM has the FTDI chip onboard. It is totally USB ready.

I know what you mean. I use proto boards and the PEK breadboard.
That's just odd how that works, isn't it.

Hmm... That doesn't sound good. Sorry you're having trouble. I test all the units myself before I ship them, but yours definitely sounds like it has a problem. Sounds like the reset circuit is working... Must be something wrong with transmit from Prop to USB (that makes the green LED flash)...

If we can't figure it out, you can send it to me and I'll fix it or send you a new one... Send me a PM, if you want to send it to me.

I think I'd try using a PropPlug on that header to see if it can be programmed that way... Then, I'd know it was something wrong with the FTDI chip...

    Rayman
Excellent suggestion ---- PropPlug tested - success.

Thanks lots. I'll let you keep your degree(s) ;)

It's not working the way I hoped, but I can use it now.
Tiltsketch running now. Also ran TVtext_Demo

You tested it for me Saturday, never thought to test for programming.

You can still send it back if you want, something might be wrong...

Only other possible thing (kinda a long shot) is that the drivers are old or not working right...
Do you have the latest Prop Tool? Very old versions of Prop Tool sometimes had issues...

If you want to troubleshoot that problem some more...

Maybe you could try using "fullduplexserial" with the USB interface to see if you can send data in or out from USB interface...
The green led should flash when data goes out from the Prop to the USB, the red led is when data comes into the Prop from the USB...

It sounds to me like there's a bad connection coming out from the Prop to the FTDI chip...· That would mean either a badly soldered 1k resistor or (more likely) a bad connection at the pin of the FTDI chip...

Actually, I think I remember testing this guy with you at the Expo... It was at the end of the day, and I was really, really tired... But, didn't we load up the "PSM Text Demo" on your device with my PC? I do vaguely remember something wierd happening once, but I thought that was a static discharge because we were standing on plastic...

Wow, thanks for the replies. I need to try fullduplexserial

using Prop Tool version 1.2.6 on both home and laptop machines.

Your memory is correct, this is the one you tested late in the day.
you were switching power and USB from my board to yours so fast
I had trouble keeping up. I'm not sure if you ran "PSM Text Demo"
    on my board or yours.
