The Last DIP Propeller in the world ?

Yesterday I happened to be in the Helsinki branch of the Scandinavian electronics distributor Elfa.
Out of curiosity I asked if Elfa had any DIP Props in stock. Normally they don't keep chips and such here but get them sent over from the Stockholm branch. Well blimey, Elfa had one last Prop in stock and it was in Helsinki.

So of course I had to slap down my money and snag it immediately. Total 16.35 Euro bloody hell.

Just to taunt you all here is a picture of it fresh out of it's packaging and settling down in a breadboard.

Now I can get on with building my TriBlade.

Any other sightings out there ?

Well, if you want to pay a good $50, you can just get the HYDRA Book + Prop... I needed the book, and just decided to get the prop package so I have a prop other than the one used for my PropStick Kit...

I think it may be time for making more modules! I especially like the propmods...

Sure, the DIP chip is convenient for breadboards and such, but modules seem even better for their other features that would take up precious real estate on one's breadboard/circuit board.

I still have 5 in good working order from the original first release. 4 remain unused and saved for a rainy day.

I bought a DIP version a few months ago for this project (I call it "ProBot", and it comes with a "ProMote" smile.gif )

Normally I would opt for the QFP or QFN package, but I had a special request to avoid surface mount devices.

I thought for sure Digi-Key had more, but alas I just checked and they are out.

You could put always put a QFP on a SM adapter board (like what I had to do for the FT232 which isn't available in DIP).

As StefanL38 noted, the Parallax site says they will ship again in November. Is that right?

I have 8 of them still stuck on the anti-static foam smile.gif
Well, I have 10 actually as the two that are on the remote terminal project test boards
are in zif sockets and can be lifted out if needed. Sure glad we bought some as
I'd have a hard time using the sm versions on breadboards

BTW: The 2-wire remote terminal boards work fine and the data passes easily on the power
lines at a respectable distance. I am testing them by hooking them up through a roll of
bulk ethernet cable, that way the terminal board is right next to me on the table even though
it's many yards of power wire away. I hooked it up at first with old rg58 network wire that
was under the floor to a vga/kbrd setup in a room down the hall but then it struck me how silly
that was and I used the roll of wire smile.gif I had been running down the hall to check if the data was
    coming through all right! Doh!

A few years back I was working on a project involving the development of Linux based boxes with multiple DSL ports on them. We had 5Km of twisted pair telephone cable on a huge wooden drum to do exactly that kind of testing.

Crazy guys took the drum up to the lab in the lift, way over it's weight limit. After that the lift was always 6 inches down from the floor it stopped at.

    Our DSLs worked fine.

    @heater

Now that was one big roll of wire!
My roll is just 100ft but I have hooked up the wires in the ethernet cable so it loops back
and works like 200ft...it also worked wired as 400ft but I had to increase the V a little...the
wires in that cable are pretty small diameter and don't carry current so well.
