    Not bad...

I have to admit that the easiest solution in my lab has been soldering the sockets directly
to the perf after a little pre-tinning. I keep five or six on hand now for the whatever
    Propboard I build next.

    That is pretty clever.

I use these $7 SD/MMC mini-boards from Futurelec, pretty nice for cheap.

The title (and the article) are a bit misleading though. It's not a socket, which would mean you could use any card...you're actually making the card so it won't plug into a PC anymore. Just my thoughts.

They use the micro sd socket for it, not a full sized sd card. I thought it was a full sd card too when I first read it.

I don't think they actually soldered anything to the card. It appears that they used the headers in such a way that bent pins made a fairly reliable contact with the pads.

It's made to stand upright--it's soldered. It doesn't matter though with micro sd.

The picture says it all (but the article backs it up too). There is no solder between the pins and the card pads. It doesn't matter if it's a microSD or full size SD card.

The article also shows a 90 degree attachment as well - see pic in previous post.

    @Chris,

It is true it is not a socket - I just used the Instructable title.

By the way - I did not write the Instructable - I just thought some folks here might like to use this...

I've been looking for SDcard sockets for years in Taiwan. For people in far flung corners of the world, this may be the only options.

This is a GoODIE. Rather than pay $10USD shipping for a $3 part, my Propeller can now have an SDcard.

If you think about it, the same thing can be done with a USBmemory stick, but it is a tigher fit. At least I can buy USB sockets locally.

I wish you could just buy an 8-pin DIP with a 2GB sd card's guts inside for the same $ they sell sd cards nowadays.
    Now wouldn't that be nice...

Ok, I see what you mean about the SD Card actually being a socket...the title maybe could have been more accurate? =) I know it wasn't your words Whit. I went to the link.· Take care.

Wow, that is pretty cool! I, too, thought it was soldered to the card. I thought "man.... that sure is fragile!". Just a single bump might rip those pins out of the card... Glad I was wrong - this is nice!
