Hi

Only to know about the difference between
these two Parallax GPS:

PMB-248 GPS Receiver + Cable (Code 28500) = $39.99

, and ,

Parallax GPS Receiver Module (Code:28146) = $79.99

Thanks , Mark

The more expensive one has an additional onboard chip that parses the NMEA strings and gives the user the option of using "smart mode"(aka, they can ask for a specific piece of information instead of looking for it). The other (cheaper one) is just the receiver, which outputs the raw NMEA strings. They both use the same GPS module, so accuracy and things like that are identical.

    Hi,

The item code 28500 (the cheaper one) doesn't have any BS2 demo code at the Parallax web page and the more expensive
one has a BS2 demo code.

It seems that they could be very different since Parallax isn't using the same code
    for both GPS.

Sorry about my questions but , I don't know enough about
    the items.

    Thanks Mark

Here is the user created guide for the PMB-248 version: http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=807139

Parallax isn't using the same code because the interfaces are very different. One is a prompt and reply type format (the expensive one), the other is a listen format (the cheap one). On the expensive one, if you pull the fourth pin low (the RAW pin) it acts exactly like the cheaper one.
