To get around this (and so I don't have to look at Javalin or test forum posts) I just MMB each of the forums from the home page, then in each forum I MMB the interesting threads. It works out pretty well, especially on a slower internet connection since a bunch of pages can load while I'm reading one.

Hello,

If you’re signed in when you read new messages the forums remember that. So when you come back, by default the newest posts are always on top and the newest messages can be seen in a thread by clicking the arrow in the thread list that points to the last seen post read. Try that and see if it helps. Take care.

What does Middle Mouse Button do on your system? My mouse doesn't have a middle button.

You don't have a MMB? Oh dear... :) I use it all the time, mostly for web browsing. If you MMB a link then it opens up the link in a new tab, but still leaves your current window unchanged. So if you have a bunch of links that you want to look at then you MMB each one to open them up and save them for later perusal. MMB when clicked on a page allows you to set the scroll speed by moving the cursor up and down relative to the click. In this case, it's a faster way to scroll than actually rolling the wheel. Basically, each function replaces a couple of mouse movements and clicks.

The function of the MMB varies depending on the PC and mouse installed. For example, every PC I use at work and at home includes a Microsoft Wheel Mouse. Windows default operation for the MMB (which is built into the wheel) is to bring up the auto-scroll icon, which as you move your mouse away from it, smoth auto-scrolls the page in the opposite direction relative in speed to distance from the icon. I use it to smooth scroll web pages so they don't jump like when I use the mouse wheel.

Oh wait, I do have a MMB. I'd completely forgotten that I can press the scroll wheel. Thanks for the reminder.
I usually use mouse gestures in Opera to open links in new tabs, but this MMB thing will come in handy in other browsers.

The active thread link doesn't work if you are logged in. It's a bug in the forum software. I usually view the active threads, then log in using a separate tab. If I need to refresh the active thread page, I just log out.
