Does anyone have a recommendation on a smt vacuum they like?

One of these will get nearly all the ones that fall on the floor:

Yeah really. Have you done the 0402 parts yet? I once ordered a sc70? schmitt trigger and was oogling it. Somehow it popped out of my hand into the carpet and I absolutely could not find it.

Here is what I am going to try. store.sra-solder.com/product.php/6366/0

I saw a guy the other day pick up some SMT parts with a magnet. I never thought of it but it worked well.

    Erik,

To place the really small parts I just use tweezers. (And, no, I can't even see 0402s, let alone place them!) For something bigger, I use a hand-operated vacuum pick-up. It has a little button on the side that squeezes the air out. Then I press the cup against the part and release the button. For me this has a huge advantage, in that I'm not dragging a hose across my bench and pulling the mess onto the floor! smile.gif

I like to place resistors right side up for my own satisfaction, and I am tired of dumping and turning with a tweezers.

I always place resistors rightside up. But I've come up with a technique for flipping them using the point of the tweezers, so I don't have to pick them up to do it. It's still a bit tedious, though.
