serial transfer rate for bs2 vs RFID reader

Hi,
I am using the BS2 module with the the parallax serial RFID reader
the stamp is rated at 9600 baud
the reader is rated·at 2400 baud
but i am looking for better read range
so i am interested in moving to the APSX RW-210
http://www.trossenrobotics.com/store/p/4140-APSX-RW-210-RFID-Reader-Writer.aspx
i noticed that this reader has a comm rate listed at 19,200 bps Data Rate
does this mean i will have to move to the BS2PX ?

ps. does anyone have any experience with these two readers and if so is the read range increased with the move to the APSX RW-210 and/or does anyone know of a reader with a better read range that will work with a BS@ family module?

thanks for your help,
cabracer

These two RFID readers are very different. Parallax's reader operates in the 125KHz range while the one Trossen sells operates in the 13MHz range. Trossen quotes a maximum read range of 6". I'd treat that as optimistic. It's greater than the range of the Parallax reader (4"), but practically not a huge difference.

You will have to switch to the BS2px to handle receiving at the 19.2Kbps comm rate.

    Thanks Mike!
I see that the quoted range is only 6" compared to 4" but in my situation anything will help
I am making a portable automated shelf basically so i need a small reader with as much distance as pssible
plus i need to use small tags ...currently a 22 mm disk
well, tag really since neither of these readers are UHF where i believe anti collsion begins
that would be nice but baby steps
right now i am using three of the parallax readers set in a triangle that cycle around to cover the area
the problem is that the angle of incidence between the readers and the tag is perpendicular ...or 45 degrees at best so the read distance is severly diminished

do you have any idea what they mean by ....

Read/Write Range 7” directional (4" radius cone shape)

    thanks

I assume you've got two cones tip to tip with a cone base radius of 4" and the cone height (tip to base) of 7". The reader would be at the level of the two cone tips parallel to the bases.
