Is wire shielding an issue here?

I was trying to wire up a button to the propeller demo board with a wire going from the VDD to the button
on the breadboard and an opposite wire going back to a pin that I have for input.

I notice just putting my hand near the wires was creating a connection. These are plastic coated wires
I got off Ebay that have pins on the end for breadboard use.

Is this a wire shielding issue or am I wiring it up wrong?

No the problem is you need a resister to vss fron the pin. Called a pull down resister. 10k is good

Thank you both for the fast response. That was indeed the problem.
