A single syntax error in computer code·doomed NASA's 1962 satellite Mariner 1. Pity NASA didn't have a syntax-checkin',·color-codin'·utility like our PBasic editor·to proofread·flawed code. Many improvements·in the 47 years since. Thank you, Parallax !

Considering that space flight and programming were in their infancy at the time and that there were no HLL's - only assembly language, no Turbo Editors to catch syntax mistakes, mishaps like the Mariner 1 were bound to occur.

That's okay, think of the hardware!!! I worked for a plating chemistry company years ago and we had photographs of PCB cross sections. The through hole plating was so bad it would be rejected on a give away toy today.

The whole system that they used to land on the moon, a $1 million+ system, had less power then the Propeller!
