USB Com Port doesn't see stamps on USB Professional Development Board

I got my PDB about two years ago as part of an SX Super Kit. I've only used it with Stamps and never have been able to program them through the onboard USB circuit. Since I started using it on a desktop PC with a serial port, I have never bothered looking into it. Now that I only use it with laptops/PCs that require a USB-RS232 adapter, I would like to get it fixed. (I currently only have one USB-RS232 adapter)
It shows up as a com port in windows, but the stamp software never sees any stamps. I have the Rev C schematic and did a quick review of the board but didn't see anything obvious. I have seen in some Javelin threads that the Javelin IDE doesn't work with com ports over 4 but I don't think StampW.exe has the same issue? I think my PDB shows up as Com 6 on both of my laptops.

Anyone else have similar issues with the Rev C USB version of the PDB?

What do you have for USB I/O drivers? The default I/O drivers in Windows don't work for programming. You have to install the proper FTDI driver from either Parallax's website or FTDI's website. If you use the wrong I/O driver, it may show up as a COM port, but be unable to identify or program any kind of Parallax microcontroller (Basic Stamp, Javelin, Propeller, SX).

Using up to date FTDI drivers. I have about 8 different devices using various FTDI chips and have no other issues.

I changed the com port to Com 2 just to rule out com port # issues. When I run the ID check, I get:

    Port...................Device Type..............Version..........Loopback...........Echo...
    Com2:.....................................................................YES..................NO.....

What do get when it is on com6

Unless you have a yes for both then It will not see it

I had this problem a while back and it was the USB adapter when I used a new one I was able to program again

I still do not know what is wrong with that USB adapter· it would work some of the time but not all of the time

I have had this USB adapter·for some time now 3 year or so now

Do you have a web link to the USB Professional Development Board

I am not using an adapter, I am using the onboard USB circuit. When I use an adapter with the serial port, it works fine. The part number is the same as the current PDB (28138), so the schematic isn't linked anywhere on Parallax's website. It's still on the server however, at:

I tried again last night with a different port and trying different power up methods. Here's what I can get now:

    Port...................Device Type..............Version..........Loopback...........Echo...
    Com6:.....................................................................YES..................Yes.....

I tried the following power-up methods:

powering up the PDB, then plugging in USB
plugging in USB, then powering up the PDB
Power up the PDB, plug in USB, then power cycle the PDB

I saw another post in the Basic Stamp forum with someone having the same issue with a USB BOE.

Anyone have any other ideas? I am considering dropping it by Parallax to have them take a peak at it.
