i have worked with the basic stamp two homework board and the usb stamp dongle and i was wondering which microcontroller would be the best one out there from the parallax line like to prgram with PBasic 2.5 but i would like to learn other languages from the paralax line of products i was thinking about the prop stick edu. board for trying to build a computer so to speak, and today i seen the javelin and was like i wonder what the programming is like on it i would love to get feedback from forum moderators as well as anyone else with personal oppinions not sales pitches (no offense to the moderators)

in my opinion spinstudio from ucontroler.com is the most diverse prop platform. my propmodules are tiny and give access to all the basics in convient package.

What ever platform you chose the prop is the way to go.

propmod_us and propmod_1x1 are in stock. Only $30. PCB available for $5

Want to make projects and have Gadget Gangster sell them for you? propmod-us_ps_sd and propmod-1x1 are now available for use in your Gadget Gangster Projects.

Need to upload large images or movies for use in the forum. you can do so at uploader.propmodule.com for free.

Well, I also started with the HWB and after mastering every aspect of the BS2, I wanted to get a new mcu. I got started with the propeller in order to enter a contest on gadget gangster--I had to learn the prop in about 1 week after a failed home made serial connection.

My suggestion is to go with the prop. Get a dip propeller, eeprom, crystal, prop plug, and sockets for the chips. You can just breadboard your projects and see what you think of the prop.

I would go with the Propeller. To do it cheaply, use the Propeller Education Kit. If you already have a breadboard, you can just get the parts kit (www.parallax.com/StoreSearchResults/tabid/768/List/0/SortField/4/ProductID/416/Default.aspx?txtSearch=propeller+education+kit) plus a PropPlug for a total of about $70 and you can download the tutorials and manuals for free.

The USB PropStick version wouldn't need a PropPlug and a lot of the parts are included on the PropStick. It would also save some wiring effort, but I think you'd have to buy the packaged Propeller Education Kit for $100 to get what you'd need.

You could leave out the brownout detector. It's to prevent the Stamp from improperly executing code when the supply voltage is too low (and possibly corrupting the EEPROM contents).

Huh? Why would you need the brownout detector to be able to program the Stamp?

The brownout detector just provides another source of /Reset in addition to a reset pushbutton and the ATN circuitry.

when the computer sends the signal i believe it resets the stamp to sincronize with it i am not sure but i put the oem circuit together and omited the brown out detector and it said no stamps found i am 100% sure i followed the schematic, cause only i could figure out how my circuit was put together, its that scrambled. lol. but either way i didnt fry it (YET), so i am off to a good start, and if i bought another kit it would be so i had two oem pakages, and i would use the same portion of the circuit to program them. i have a carrier board that i made that has only the pieces required to operate the stamp and eprom. the rest of the circuit is on another boars which i refer to as my computer interface card and once i get the brown out detector i can put it in place. and buil up a second carrier board and use the same interface card to program both carrier boards
