Parallax GPS

I am using the Parallax GPS to calculate the distance between two points.· Everything works fine except for the accuracy of the GPS.· The distance varies by as much as 25 yards standing in the same place. ·Has anyone done this? and any suggestions?

That's normal. The highest accuracy of the GPS system is available only to the US military. The only way to improve this for a civilian application is to have a fixed transmitter at a precisely known location nearby that sends a correction factor to the portable unit. That's what's used in some agricultural applications.

Mike, thanks for the reply.· I made a portable unit for my golf cart.· I entered the location of all the greens so I could display the distance from my last shot and to the green.· It works fine except the data from the GPS is not accurate enough.· I know they make commercial units that do this.· I wonder how they get their accuracy.
    Any ideas?

You can get accuracy down to 1 meter with a GPS that is enabled with WAAS. Garmin sells several that have this feature. For the golf course, I would recommend a Garmin eTrex H for under $100

Andrew Williams, thank you for the advice. I would like to buy a GPS module like the Parallax GPS that I can control with a microcontroller so I can write my own program. I have that now, but as I said the accuracy isn't there. I see that the eTrex H uses WAAS to improve accuracy. I guess what I have to find is a GPS module that is WAAS enabled.

The Parallax GPS already has WAAS.
