LARGE servos and drivers

I am apparently going to be making what amounts to a·large·animatronic plant.· It is going to be large - about 6 or 7 feet, and will need some significant movement that I will be controlling by remote.· It won't weight toooo much, so the nice 6" wheel and motor sets Parallax makes will be good for what floor motion it will be doing, but I will need some significantly beefy servos for the control of the motion of the upper components of the plant's "body".· Looking for suggestions, completely new to large scale robotics.

Thanks very much!

There are lots of companies that make high power servos, and a google search will unearth them (along with a perusal of hobbyist robotics magazines). Look for ones with metal gears (or high quality plastic) and ball bearings. Typically the servos are used in combat robots. Expect to shell out lots of cash(~$100 a piece) and power (many amps).

Servo or stepper? Go with servo. Ebay has tons from machinery. Fanuc, Seimens and Allen Bradly are good systems I have worked on before. Fanuc may be tricky. Allen Bradly has better customer support. These are 220/440 vac 3 phase if you are in an industrial situation.

Opps. Misunderstood. Just waking up. I just ordered 2 of these for my boe. The vendor said they can also be modified for continous rotation and have metal gears.

I have used those large servos on a robot (see link below). They work great! I recommend them. I have only bought them assembled.

OOOOooooo!!!! Yeah, baby! Those look like what I need - in fact those look like they could lift ME up! I hope the photos don't just "make" them look big... smile.gif

Thanks very much... off to ServoCity.com!

Just a quick FYI - those did in fact turn out to be exactly what I needed. And they are well within my price range. Thanks again!
