Just to drop a line that the daily deal today is the Propeller Demo Board. 2 for 1!

http://www.parallax.com/Store/Microcontrollers/PropellerDevelopmentBoards/tabid/514/ProductID/340/List/0/Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName,ProductName

The daily deal showed the BS1 programming plug from yesterday for a while, but it finally got updated. If I didn't just get 5 Protboards the other day, I would jump at it!

Wow- what an awesome deal! Glad I waited on the Propeller Proto Board USB I was going to order last night...! And glad that I was just popping in to make a quick post asking about the cheapest way to get into the Propeller- what I'd need to get a bare-bones setup on a breadboard, etc.

    Thanks Jim (and Parallax)! :)

    Might have to get two...

Thanks for the heads up hover1, I usually come straight to the forums and often forget to check the Daily Deal. I just ordered four of 'em. Now I won't have to take my SD card setup apart in order to do some other breadboard testing on a DVD player I'm trying to propellerize.

I guess a few people picked up on the deal. Over 30 units sold over the last 24 hours.

Thanks for the heads up guys!

I have given all my Demo Boards away! (Fixed up a couple from the expo freebie table and they are finding their way to new homes!) Miss not having one for a quick run on some code though.

One stubborn one is still not running... When I get it going, I plan to toss in the 100Mhz Xtal, which is now listed as a related product for the Demo Board, and the Xtal is listed as replaceable. (cool) I'm kind of hoping the 100Mhz demo board gets to be common as well.

Anyway, the demo board is a great getting started with the prop, general purpose board. If you don't have one, get one. This is a good deal. I think I paid more than $100 for my first one way back when. $40 is just a killer price. I always forget to bonk on the daily deal.

Can I use the 9V 300mA power supply with the Demo Board rather than the 7.5V 1A supply that the website seems to be pushing?

Note to Parallax, please update your Power Supply Recommendation Chart to include Propeller products!

    Michael,

You can probably get away with it, but it depends how much hardware your going to hang off of it. That said, I am running a Proto board with a GPS module, uSD 2GB, TV out, and keyboard I/O off of a 6V 300ma wall wort and it works just fine.

BTW, I enjoy running Sphinx off that same board. turn.gif Thanks for that!

Thanks Jim. Good to know and good to know.

I assume then that all Parallax power supplies use the same connector?

Every Parallax BS2 and Propeller board that I own uses the same 5.5mm OD, 2.1MM ID connector; except for the Toddler and·Quad Rover Control Board which are hard wired.

If you have a Radio Shack nearby, you can use their Adapaplug "M" with the many DC power supplies that they offer. I like the 273-155 power supply which·has settings for 6VDC, 7.5VDC, 9VDC or 12VDC·at 2500ma and is regulated and filtered.

The do also have a 300ma supply, 273-028, which has voltage settings of 1.5/3/4.5/6/7.5/9/12VDC , that I use for smaller projects.

Between these two supplies, I can power just about anything·on the bench.

Since we're talking power supplies... I can't find any specific info on the adapter. That is, do I want a negative tip, or a positive tip supply for a Demo Board?

EDIT: Nevermind- took a gander at the Demo Board schematic that came when I installed the Propeller Tool. Looks like a positive tip is what I need, and what I have.

Props to Parallax's lightning quick fulfillment- I got my two demo boards this morning, having ordered them at 3 PM on Friday. Not too bad! :)

All Parallax boards are center (tip) positive.
