I have designed an efficient power supply ment for automotive power supplies.

Input voltage: 13-25v(5.5-13v works but 12v output droops)
Output voltages: 3.3,5,12v 500mA each

3.3 and 5v efficient over full input voltage. 12v is linear and efficiency drops with higer input voltage.

Funding for this project got cut do to economic fears so I was wondering if I fund it myself would people buy?

Physical size is 1.5x1"

Cost $34.99

propmod_us and propmod_1x1 are in stock. Only $30. PCB available for $5

Want to make projects and have Gadget Gangster sell them for you? propmod-us_ps_sd and propmod-1x1 are now available for use in your Gadget Gangster Projects.

Need to upload large images or movies for use in the forum. you can do so at uploader.propmodule.com for free.

    What is the quiescent current of the supply? Can you switch rails on and off individually?

    Rails can not be switched on and off they are always on.

    This module is not super efficient. I have tried to walk the line between cost and efficiency.

    The module will not get hot over normal car battery voltages.

    I will get you predicted quiescent current tomorrow. As stated funding has been cut so I need to know if worth putting my own money in to making them so I don't have prototype to measure.

    If I do go through with it module will be released at east expo.

    Always a delicate balance :)

    While the car is running, efficiency is not such a huge deal (what's a couple of 100's of mA here or there when you have 1000W alternator), but when the vehicle is asleep it can make a significant difference between "Vroom" and "click click click".

    I had a little rant here on incontinent Italian motorcycle electrics, and my favourite Brit - "Lucas, Prince of Darkness" but I thought it off-topic even for the Sandbox :)

    estimated quiescent current is 24mA. If 12V regulator is not needed you can remove 1 part and make it a 5.5-45V input with only 9mA quiescent current.

    If running off car batteries these will not flatten in a week.
    Will flaten my makita drill batery in 5 days with all 3 outputs.
    Don't know how many amp hours the motorcycle battery is.

    Yes, you always know when a Pommie vehicle (Made in England) has been round, whether car or bike. "Price of Darkness" notwithstanding, you don't need to be psychic, just look for the oil stain on the pavement (Brits and Cobbers call it roadway). Hey I'm giving my age away!!!

    You never needed to change the oil on a Triumph Tiger (550cc) bike because it had all leaked out and been replaced long before the service period was up.

    Yet, for all the rude insults we can hurl at old British Iron, there’s something special about them. I suppose you could say they are a bit like the British rugby players...

    Must say I'm not really much into Rugby, but old British iron holds a special place in my heart (and shed).

    Though I figure British beer is warm because Lucas made refrigerators :)

    At least the poms made theirs out of iron, the Italians make theirs from Gouda!

    mctrivia, that must be a typo, surely you ment 3.3 and 5, right?

    another spec. please - if you pull the full 500ma out of only the 3.3 and 5, not using the 12, what's the total draw on the input side?

    This is a pretty useful thing for mobile stuff ... I'd take one, but that's not gonna put you over the top. Did you consider Gadget Gangster'ing it?·

    gadget gangster will be selling if I can get enough interested to make a panel.

    not a typo that is the input voltage range if you remove the diode from the 12v rail.

    input current will depend on input voltage.

    for 3.3V@500mA, 5V@500mA, 12V-disconected.
    Vi=6V then Ii=900mA*
    Vi=12V then Ii=480mA*
    Vi=24V then Ii=260mA*

    *All numbers are calculated approximations.

    though i said all outputs are 500mA max that is not entirely true.

    3.3V can be up to 800mA, and 5V can be up to 1000mA.
    The sum current of 3.3V and 5V should not exceed 1000mA

    Interesting, if you max it to 1A, do any components need additional heatsinking? (Thinking of package size here.)

    How many do we need to pre-order to make this work for you?

    thanks.

    5V rail maxed out there will be no heat issues.
    3.3V rail at 500mA requires no heat sink and probably requires none at 800mA
    12V rail depends on input voltage. Heat will be no issue with normal automotive voltages(13-15V)

    Bulk Discount Price:
    1-9: $34.99
    10-49: $31.99
    50-199: $29.99
    200-499: $28.49
    500-: $26.99

    Made a minor error in dimensions. it is 2"x0.75" with 2 mounting points on opposite corners.

    I need to assemble in multiples of 20
