Has anyone tried other drives instead of the ones specified on the product page?

http://www.parallax.com/Store/Accessories/Communication/tabid/161/CategoryID/36/List/0/Level/a/ProductID/434/Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName%2cProductName

Most stores don't sell 1 and 2 GB drives anymore at least the ones specified.

I have tried 8G drives on other products and it would not work. I suspect the same is true of the Memory Stick Datalogger since anything over 2G requires FAT32.

Look for multi-packs to get the smaller sizes. I just saw a 4 pack of the Sandisk Cruzer 1GB on the list at WalMart for less than $20 (don't remember the exact price, just remember it being a decent deal)

Yeah, you might want to grab multi of the multi packs - I bet they're destined for dodo bird land!

You can still get 1 and 2 GB thumbdrives and SD cards from a number of places like Amazon, Kmart, Target,·Sears, Tigerdirect, Newegg, Digikey, etc.· I found some at the five dollar store.· I think you can get them at some or most office supply stores.

Gamestop sells 1 or 2 GB SD cards for the Wii and they are Sandisk products.· Some of these record stores at the mall still sell SD cards and thumbdrives.· It is harder to get 256 MB cards (I'm not sure why anyone wants to) but it can still be done.

Lexar still sells 2GB Firefly thumbdrives and SD cards.

There are stores where the prices are high because their rent is high and because of that they still have old products because they don't move products in volume due to different business practices.

    Have you used google?

I see a lot of talk about using only FAT16 formatted USB Thumb Drives which I find interesting because the Vinculum Chip supports FAT32 already. According to the manual:

    3.1.2 General limitations
All firmware versions support BOMS devices formatted in FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32 file systems
only where the sector size is 512 bytes. No other file systems or sector sizes are allowed.
Furthermore, only BOMS devices which support the SCSI or AT command sets are supported.
On devices which implement multiple LUNs, only the primary LUN (0) is supported. The VNC1L
firmware can only access the primary partition of a disk.
