I have a CD4024BE laying around and wonder if I can use it.

I understand that the top left pin is an input pin, the Q-pins are outputs?

    The operation of the CD4024B is described in the data sheet.

    Yes I read it and it's not very descriptive.
    I'm having problems understand the concept... It's an 8-bit binary counter, does that mean it has 8 counters?
    If so how do i reset each counter, and how do I read it?

    will a black hole evaporate if you send it to /dev/null ?

    It's actually a seven stage ripple counter. You must read and understand the data sheet if you want to use it.

    It's a very old chip, I don't think anyone uses them any more.
