I announced this at the expo, but I thought I'd also put it up in the forums, it's our School Days Contest, there's more info here.

The format is more like our first Designer Contest, but the prize is different. Do you think this prize is better than the last contest, or worse (For the last contest, the winner received $500)?

I think it would motivate people more if the booty was split between the winner and their chosen school. Cash is always good, but useful e-stuff is in someways better. (Take my case for example - I unwittingly won a 100k'th poster prize recently on the Prop forum. This prompted me to get the PPDB and Viewport, neither of which I would have for some months yet. This in turn let me do some cool things which I've already demonstrated to some interested educators. That wouldn't have happened if I didn't have the board and stuff sitting on my bench now when some of these folks visited...)

well, you get the point - supporting a designer who wants to support a school has a multiplying effect

    To turn and old phrase:

"Enable a man to build a better fish-finder, and he'll teach others to fish better."

    cheers
    - Howard

For the PICaxe folks, I gave away an O'scope and benchtop power supply. Is that more interesting?

Yes, perhaps - and it might be better to donate the cash-equ. of equipment to the school instead, to foster their science classes.

You know, off topic, but sure wish I had had the PICaxe #1 prize to give to some of my dear tenants - before their brews *exploded* in the freezer wink.gif

I think so. Nothing wrong with cash but I think hardware is more interesting. Ideally, each winner would choose between a couple of prizes. Or have three items and first place gets first pick and so on. Just an idea...

I won the 100,002 poster and got the PE labs kit and the Demo Board. Both of which I have used exhaustfully since I have got them, and I have gotten a LOT more projects out of them then I thought already. I am a tightwad and would NEVER have bought those myself. Hardware is definate!
